CARINA Lighthouse Event Held in Lleida to Showcase Camelina in Double Cropping Systems

On May 6, 2025, CARINA project partners Camelina Company and Federació de Cooperatives Agràries de Catalunya (FCAC) organized a Lighthouse event in the province of Lleida, Spain. The event took place at one of the project’s double cropping trial plots, designed to demonstrate the potential of camelina integration into local crop rotations.

The event gathered 8 farmers and 2 agribusiness managers. Participants were guided through a field visit to observe the ongoing trials, followed by a presentation and discussion session led by project experts.

During the discussions, attendees expressed significant interest in the use of camelina as a preceding crop to soybeans or short-cycle corn, crops typically cultivated in the region under irrigation during the summer months. These conversations highlighted the adaptability and promise of camelina in contributing to more diversified and sustainable cropping systems.

This event served as a valuable opportunity to engage directly with the farming community and gather practical feedback to inform future CARINA activities.
