As the CARINA project approaches its conclusion, the consortium will come together in Brussels for the CARINA Final Conference – “Unlocking the Potential of Carinata and Camelina in Europe and North Africa” on 14 October 2026.

The conference will provide an opportunity to look back at the work carried out throughout the project and, importantly, to look ahead at how the knowledge, results and recommendations developed within CARINA can contribute to more sustainable and diversified farming systems and circular bio-based value chains.

Over the course of CARINA, partners have explored the potential of camelina and carinata as intermediate oilseed crops, investigating their integration into innovative farming systems and their potential to provide feedstocks for the bio-based economy.

The Final Conference will bring together the project’s main results, conclusions and recommendations and open a broader discussion about what is needed to translate these outcomes into practice.

The programme will address key areas explored throughout CARINA, including innovative and sustainable farming systems, full biomass valorisation and circular approaches, feedstock provision and certification, and the European regulatory framework for intermediate oilseed crops.

Particular attention will be given to the perspectives of farmers, industry and policymakers, creating a space to discuss the practical, economic, market and policy conditions needed for wider uptake of camelina- and carinata-based value chains.

The conference is intended to bring together stakeholders from across agriculture, research, industry and policy, including farmers and farmers’ organisations, agricultural advisers, bio-based industries and value-chain actors, biofuel and biorefinery stakeholders, certification and sustainability experts, researchers, policymakers and public authorities.

Through presentations and interactive discussions, participants will have the chance to explore the opportunities and remaining barriers for camelina and carinata in Europe, discuss pathways towards industrial deployment and market uptake, and consider priorities for further action beyond the lifetime of the CARINA project.
