A New Energy Landscape: decarbonization of EU transports, especially aviation

With the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) and the Fit for 55 package, the EU has doubled down on climate neutrality and energy transition. But sustainable bioenergy requires more than ambition, it requires advanced feedstocks that don’t drive deforestation or displace food crops.

Camelina and carinata, when grown as intermediate crops, offer exactly that. They require little irrigation or fertilization, and do not compete with food crops.

This makes them ideal for biofuel production in compliance with RED III, and are eligible for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuels, while their integration into circular supply chains is translated in their contribution to climate-smart agriculture.
